What you’ll be responsible for

What you’ll be responsible for

 

  1. Support the Response Pod Team in delivering an efficient and effective 24/7 service with no avoidable failures in service delivery. 
  2. Respond to issues as directed by Operational Response and Control teams, providing regular feedback to ensure that risks are understood and customers are kept up to date with progress throughout our response. You’ll be responding to a wide variety of issues ranging from single customer contacts to major failures of large diameter water mains. You’ll be responsible for investigating, pinpointing the fault and taking action to resolve the issue. 
  3. Provide service to customers directly in response to urgent issues and ensure that customers are fully informed about what happens next. 
  4. Support in ensuring that all vehicles, plant and equipment are adequately maintained and ready to deploy at all times, with particular focus on maintaining of compliance with Water Quality and Safety standards expected. 
  5. Utilise all emergency response equipment available to restore supplies as quickly as possible in the event of failures, whilst ensuring that water quality is not compromised and the Environment is protected.  
  6. Support the delivery of planned work on the Distribution network ensuring that risk assessment/method statements are followed and safety and water quality are put at the forefront of everything we do. You’ll support with carrying out leakage detection and maintenance tasks to ensure that we meet our business targets. 
  7. Monitor contractors’ performance through carrying out inspections and safety conversations. You’ll ensure that people in our supply chain understand the importance of the highest standards of safety and service to customers. You’ll review contractor RAMS to ensure suitability for the task being undertaken and issue Permits to Work / Certificates of Isolation to enable works to proceed.   
  8. Carry out dynamic Risk Assessments on-site to ensure that hazards are identified and risks mitigated or reduced as far as possible. You’ll ensure that activities undertaken comply with all Health and Safety legislation and DCWW Health & Safety policies.
  9. Carry out routine daily checks on vehicles in order to comply with Road Traffic Act requirements and to ensure compliance with DCWW Operators Licence.  You’ll be required to accurately record and report defects. 
  10. Recording all activities in the relevant corporate systems (SAP, PowerApps, Procedural Forms) to ensure that there is an auditable record of our actions. 
  11. Taking Water Quality samples from Tankers and other temporary Supplies, in line with our procedures, to ensure that the water we supply our customers meets the standards we expect. You’ll need to support with ensuring that logistics arrangements are understood and complied with to transport samples to our laboratory in time for analysis each day.  
  12. Support the Operations Supervisor and Compliance Teams with ensuring that HGV Drivers hours are accurately recorded, monitored and never breached. 
  13. Ensure chlorination of tankers, bowsers and hoses is completed and recorded when necessary.
  14. Ensure availability of tankers and kit is communicated effectively so informed supply interruption mitigation is completed.
  15. Communicate and escalate the need for driver changeovers or additional resource in a timely manner.
  16. Ensure any water quality issues or risks are escalated immediately.
  17. Participate in a standby rota and undertake any other duties that may be required to meet business needs.

About you

Essential Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills

 

Qualifications

  • A recognised Plumbing Qualification required (Minimum of NVQ level 2 in Plumbing and Heating or equivalent). Proof to be submitted upon application.


 
Experience

  • Good understanding of leakage identification and repair techniques and principles and able to detect leakage both external to and internally within customers’ homes quickly and efficiently
  • Comprehensive experience and knowledge of domestic plumbing systems, appliances and fittings with a range of different repair techniques and skills
     

Knowledge & Skills

  • Enthusiastic about putting our customers first every day
  • Good interpersonal skills eg building a rapport, listening effectively to others 
  • Good communication skills eg clear and concise
  • IT Skills including Microsoft Office packages, SAP Work Manager, TMJ, Geo field, Vyntelligence, Water core
  • Current, full valid UK driving licence

Shift Information

This role operates on a structured 12-hour rotating shift pattern:

  • 2 day shifts: 6:00am – 6:00pm
  • 2 night shifts: 6:00pm – 6:00am
  • Followed by 4 consecutive days off

 

This cycle repeats eight times. After the seventh cycle, you will receive an extended break of 18 consecutive days before the pattern restarts.

Due to the fixed nature of this shift pattern, annual leave is built into the rota and cannot be booked separately. However, there may be flexibility to swap shifts or purchase additional leave in exceptional circumstances.

 

Additional Requirements

  • You will be required to take part in a standby rota
  • Shift working is an integral part of this role
  • There may be an opportunity to discuss working patterns (day shift or 24-hour rota) during the interview process

 

There is a 25% additional shift allowance payment on top of the base salary for this role.
