What you’ll be responsible for

To lead Welsh Water and the Capital Delivery in delivering on its Net Zero commitments. The Carbon Manager will engage widely across Welsh Water, Capital Delivery and Supply Chain to deliver carbon savings through innovation and leading industry best practice. This will involve embedding tools, training, processes and governance around capital investment within Welsh Water.
 

Your Key Responsibilities will include: 
 

  1. Continually look inside and outside the water industry to ensure that Welsh Water and Capital Delivery are implementing best practice carbon management
  2. Drive the implementation and continual improvement of the Capital Carbon Strategy
  3. Work with Welsh Water and Capital Delivery colleagues across the project lifecycle to support the delivery of assets with the lowest whole life cost and carbon
  4. Establish processes and procedures to monitor and improve carbon performance
  5. Support the ongoing development of the Capital Delivery Sustainability and Options process, as well as working directly with project teams to maximise carbon reduction opportunities
  6. Share best practice and key leaning across Capital Delivery in relation to carbon reduction across the entire project lifecycle
  7. Network extensively across the infrastructure carbon sector to ensure Welsh Water and Capital Delivery have access to the latest best practice in carbon reduction
  8. Support the development of carbon data sets to support effective decision making
  9. Support the development and trial of innovative, low carbon approaches
  10. Develop a plan to integrate carbon accounting into the chosen Capital Delivery estimating and cost intelligence system
  11. Deliver training and awareness sessions across Welsh Water and Capital Delivery
  12. Improve the data management of all carbon management activities and supply data to Welsh Water for regulatory reporting processes and ISO14064 compliance
  13. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, establish accessible library of best practice and review as on a regular basis.
  14. Ensure that we are communicating carbon opportunities and activities to all relevant stakeholders within Capital Delivery
  15. Participate in thought leadership opportunities to communicate Capital Delivery direction, successes and challenges, e.g. Water UK papers, DCC internal conference presentations, presentations at water industry conferences etc.

About you

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills 
 

  • Degree or equivalent level of qualification in a related subject (Environment, Construction, Surveying, Design)    
  • A collaborative approach to problem solving and solution development    
  • Proven experience in stakeholder management and communication    
  • Proven understanding of how to communicate with different engineering disciplines and the construction industry    
  • Track record of successful carbon management within a large, complex organisation, preferably within a capital programme context
  • Exhibit behaviours consistent with the Alliance vision and values, leading by example    
  • A desire to promote and drive innovation to produce optimal solutions at lowest whole life costs    
  • An innovative outlook to delivering whole life cost and carbon savings    
  • Project and Programme Management experience
  • Comfortable delivering presentations to different audiences, both internally and externally
