Inclusivity Ambassadors - Fasting for a Day

We have many colleagues across the business who are currently taking part in Ramadan, and there have been lots of articles from colleagues on their experience.

On Monday 26 April, four of our Inclusivity Ambassadors fasted for a day.   This was to help raise awareness and experience what our colleagues are going through.

Annette Mason

“Along with other Inclusivity Ambassadors I was really pleased to join our colleagues celebrating Ramadan. Although we only fasted for a day, it made me realise how much commitment is needed and how hard it is to go without water, even for just a day.”

Trystan Lewis-Williams

“Joining colleagues for a day in observing Ramadan gave me an appreciation of the devotion people who practice Islam have to their faith“

Stephne Puddy

“I have never really thought about the impact on colleagues.  Last Monday completely changed my perspective.  I think no food I could just about cope with – but no water and no coffee took it to another level.  The dedication our colleagues go through every year is huge and they have my full respect.”

Jenna Nicolle-Gaughan

“Before taking part in Ramadan (for one day only), I’d only ever really thought about how difficult it must be for Muslims to give up food in daylight hours for a whole month. However, the thing I found most difficult was not drinking water or coffee. I’ve got a huge amount of respect for the dedication it takes to do this, and I’ll make more effort in future to ask Muslim colleagues how they’re finding it and whether any adjustments can be made to support them.”
