Recruitment Steps

We know that applying for a job can sometimes be confusing.

We’ve added some handy tips here to make the recruitment process a little less complicated.

Tips for your application:

1. Have a CV ready before you apply.

Our recruitment process, as well as many others, asks that you upload a CV.  Make sure yours is up-to-date, relevant to the job you are applying for and ready to upload before you start the application process.

2. Covering letters, what’s the point?

A covering letter is a great opportunity for you to show us why you are the right person for the role. Highlight your relevant qualifications, skills and experience and show us how enthusiastic you are about working here. There’s no need to post it anywhere either, just upload along with your CV.

3. Accessibility requirements and reducing unconscious bias.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity at Welsh Water

We are an inclusive employer. If we can support you further at any point during the recruitment process, then please let us know. We can make reasonable adjustments for any stage of your assessment. Also, as a company committed to the improvement of equality and diversity, we endorse “guaranteed interviews”.  This is where, for a candidate who has disclosed that they identify as part of an underrepresented group, we aim to provide a guaranteed interview if the candidate meets the essential criteria of the role - as listed on our advert.

As part of our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusivity, we recognise the challenge that unconscious bias can present within the recruitment process. As such, we now encourage candidates to submit their application using only their initials in the first, last and preferred name fields as well as on their CVs. By enabling this option on the application form, we hope to improve candidate confidence in Welsh Water as an equal opportunities employer.

This is a next step in creating a fairer recruitment process and also supports our guaranteed interview commitment.

4. Company values.

Welsh Water is a value driven organisation. This means that the way you behave and treat other people is just as important to us as your ability to do the job. That’s why we ask all applicants to complete a short assessment based upon our values.  When you’ve submitted an application, you’ll get sent the link to complete it.  It shouldn’t take much longer than about 15 minutes, but please let us know if you need any special assistance in order to complete.

5. Research the company.

We’ve got some great content on Youtube, our social media feeds and our websites, as well as very experienced and knowledgeable people working for the business.  Researching the business will help you at all stages of the recruitment process.
