Instrumentation, Control and Automation (ICA) Apprentice

A key element of this role will be providing ICA support and expertise for the treatment works and associated assets and ensuring compliance. 

As part of your development, there will be a mixture of practical and theory-based learning. You will expect to attend college over 4 years to complete a BTEC and NVQ in Performing Engineering Operations and then moving on to your HNC. As well as this, you will receive role specific technical training in line with your academic studies. Dependant on your location, there may be an expectation to travel to college.

What you’ll be learning

  • To carry out planned maintenance of ICA plants, and make decisions on both tasks and frequencies in order to strike a balance between regular checks and number of breakdowns. 
  • To respond to breakdowns on a very wide variety of ICA plant, assess problems, decide on action, acquire spares and carry out repairs as necessary. 
  • Recommend design changes if necessary, to ensure that plant continues to function efficiently and effectively in order to maintain levels of service 

 

The length of this programme is 4 years. For this role you would need a minimum of a B in GCSE Maths and C in GCSE English and Science (or equivalent).
