Name: Jenna Nicolle-Gaughan

Position: Dam Safety Performance and Compliance Manager

Area of the business you work in: Dam Safety

Give an overview of your role and what it entails: My role is to ensure that all of Welsh Water’s reservoirs are managed and supervised in accordance with the Reservoirs Act (1975). I manage a small team of performance analysts and technicians to drive consistency, optimal performance and statutory compliance. I lead on our relationship with a wide range of key stakeholders including our regulators, and work with them to drive continuous improvement to deliver Welsh Water’s aspiration to be the best in class in dam safety.

How long have you worked here?

Almost ten years, during which I’ve worked in several roles spanning a number of departments. I started off in the billing contact centre before swapping that for the vulnerable customer team, then onto communications before moving to our Capital Delivery Alliance. I have somehow ended up in Dam Safety which is not something I ever anticipated but it’s a team that’s delivering innovative engineering solutions and I’m delighted to be part of it.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I’m lucky that I get to go out on site regularly visiting our dams and reservoirs, where I’m able to take in some of Wales’ most spectacular scenery – it makes for good Instagram content. I know it’s a cliché but no two days are the same. My role is a challenging one with significant responsibility but one that’s very rewarding. I genuinely look forward to what each day will bring.

What would you say to anyone thinking about working for Welsh Water?

What are you waiting for?! It’s such a diverse company with so much to offer – there really is something for everyone. I’m proud to work for a non-for-profit organisation that gives so much back to our communities. The fact that our CEO started off as an apprentice says it all, the opportunities for personal and professional growth are endless.
