Name: Nic Hooper

Position: Automation, Telemetry and Control Analyst Graduate

Area of the business you work in: North Wales ATC Department

Give an overview of your role and what it entails: I assist colleagues in maintaining and installing smart devices that allow our sites to be connected to and controlled remotely. It’s a very hands-on technical job with lots to learn and there is always work to be done around the business.

How long have you worked here? 6 months.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I really enjoy the travelling around Wales and getting to see new sites. The North ATC department cover an area as large as Chester to Borth, so there are plenty of places to see. I also really enjoy learning new technical skills, whether it be hands-on or software based.

What would you say to anyone thinking about working for Welsh Water? Do it! Welsh Water is a great place to work and there is plenty of opportunity for growth and progression for your career. I would also not hesitate if your background is not a perfect fit for the job role you wish to apply for. My degree didn’t completely align with the job role but they took me on and now I’m learning on the job!
