What you’ll be responsible for

As a credible member of the Water Network Alliance you will:

  • Integrate with the Water Network Alliance team across Wales to ensure projects are designed within the statutory, regulatory and financial outputs of the DCWW Business Plan while complying with DCWW procurement processes at all times.
  • Ensure that by working with Asset Strategy and Operations teams, DCWW meets its serviceability targets and improves its asset investment management systems, processes and competencies to achieve a successful outcome at the next price review.
  • Ensure best in class Health and Safety performance both internally and externally on all mains water and waste water pipelines.


As a Civil Design Technician you will:

  • Work collaboratively within the Water Network Alliance team and beyond, providing support function to ensure best practice designs that adhere to 
  • DCWW standard specifications. 
  • Be accountable for the design support functions of a planned programme of work on pressurised and gravity water pipelines. 
  • Inspire all colleagues working with you through the provision of a stimulating and challenging debate to promote innovative and cost effective design solutions. 
  • Assist with DCWW Health and Safety requirements and ensure all projects designed comply with the CDM Regulations 2007. 
  • Maintain quality management systems for both internal and external delivery of design projects. 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Liaison with Local Authority staff to manage impact of proposed work planned by DCWW. 
  • Site Surveys to provide information to the Designers. 
  • Site attendance on live schemes to feedback to design team. 
  • Collate and issue of Trial hole packs for Designers.
  • Locate proposed trial holes on site 
  • Update design team on any Environmental and Utility issues
  • Ensure outputs are delivered on time, working closely with other members of the Design Team and Operations 
  • Participate in robust design project reviews and meetings for existing and new projects before they are delivered. 
  • Have an practical understanding to monitor compliance of design work with the CDM Regulations 2007

About you

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • A civil engineering background with a minimum of HNC or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and experience of the design and operation of water and waste water pipelines in the water industry 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi disciplined engineering team environment
  • Experience and understanding of Health and Safety Legislation including CDM Regulations – IOSH Certificate in Health and Safety desirable
  • Excellent communicator and a team player who understands the importance of ownership and accountability.
  • The ability to work  to tight regulatory and project deadlines
