What you’ll be responsible for

 

Your role will be to assist the Activity Manager in managing the site and the activity staff. This will include developing and promoting an engaging programme of activities. You will be responsible for ensuring water and land based activities are delivered in line with the site operating procedures, and for supervising staff. In the Activity Managers absence, you will be responsible for the day to day running of the site and leadership of the activity team.

 

You will safeguard, train and actively assist staff and members of the public who undertake land and water based activities. You will be presentable, able to communicate in an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and helpful way to visitors and staff, and project a positive image for Welsh Water at all times.  The site operates 7 days a week and offers the following activities: sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, raft building, archery, laser clay shooting and axe throwing.

 

Key responsibilities include:
 

  • Supervise staff, activity delivery and ensure the smooth running of the activity centre on a day to day basis.
  • Take responsibility for the activity centre and activity team in the absence of the Activity Manager.
  • Confidently plan and deliver complex activity programmes for large groups.
  • Ensure activity enquiries and group bookings are responded to professionally and in a timely manner.
  •  Present a professional attitude and appearance at all times, maintaining an excellent level of customer service and water safety.  Engage with visitors as an ambassador of Welsh Water.
  • Ensure maintenance, repair, security and cleanliness of all Welsh Water equipment and facilities are of a continued high standard in order to exceed the requirements and expectations of our customers.
  • Ensure the safety of all persons on site, including participants of land and water-based activities and members of the public. 
  • Follow the routines for the timely opening and closing of the site and operate the safe issue and return of all activity equipment.
  • Carry out any other tasks as required for the effective management of the site, as directed by the Activity Manager.

We have just opened our  brand-new Visitor Attraction site at Lisvane Llanishen, North Cardiff, which is open all year round. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone wishing to join Welsh Water. The site boasts, a state-of-the-art Visitor Attraction building with 200 cover restaurant, balcony with views over both reservoirs, group and cubicle changing rooms, both land and water based activities, education learning space, bird hides & islands, meeting rooms and a Grab & Go.

About you

 

Qualifications

  • A high level watersport National Governing Body qualification (e.g. RYA Senior Instructor, British Canoeing Coach, UKCC Level 2 Coach) is essential
  • The following qualifications would be preferred but full training will be provided:  Additional National Governing Body (NGB) qualification in other land or watersports discipline/YA Powerboat Level 2 qualification/Water safety qualification (e.g RYA Safety Boat, FSRT, Rescue 3 WRT/SRT)/Current First Aid Certificate    

        
Experience

  • Leading and motivating a team        
  • Managing Health and Safety records and procedures        
  • Delivering water or land-based activities to individuals and groups    


    
Knowledge & Skills

  • A friendly and positive manner when speaking to customers        
  • Ability to work independently and on own initiative        
  • Always honest and professional    
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills        
  • IT literate – we use a variety of computer systems which we will teach you        
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Welsh (desirable)

We have a fixed term position available until November 2025 and casual vacancy

 

  • Casual salary is £13.57 per hour with flexible shift patterns available
  • Requirement to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays
  • A satisfactory enhanced DBS check will be required prior to start date for all successful applicants
