What you’ll be responsible for


•    Work with the Enterprise Architecture capability and the business to review drivers, needs and strategies and understand implications to the application architecture.

•    Support Enterprise Architecture in defining and maintaining the business architecture and applications roadmap.

•    Ensure current architecture is defined and maintained to agreed standards, supporting and contributing to underlying architectural principles.

•    Support the Enterprise Architecture in ensuring the Enterprise Architecture Standards are understood and implemented by ITS and across the wider DCWW business.

•    Sign off, and provide clear guidance on any technical debt accrued, to Programmes on the introduction of new applications

•    Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the main application and technology base (SAP, GIS) and a general understanding of the other technology bases which together form the overall technical direction.

•    Communicate Enterprise Architecture and related roadmaps to the business in conjunction with Architecture colleagues and Business Relationship managers.

•    Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and emerging standards, working with partners/vendors to understand new application releases or new applications being considered for use by DCWW.

•    Form part of the project team for the delivery of projects, performing the following project related activities:

-    Provide direction and guidance on projects ensuring adherence to the architecture standards and roadmap for new applications.
-    Support Business Analysts in determining high level functional and non-functional requirements for the key projects.
-    Provide solution options based on defined requirements and create high-level solution designs.
-    Validate with relevant ITS Architecture groups the technical viability of proposed solutions, as required, supporting the management of technical debt.
-    Act as the Design Authority, under the guidance of the relevant ITS Architecture Groups, on projects ensuring that the solution designs adhere to Architecture Standards and the detailed designs adhere to the agreed High Level Design.
-    Ensure all design documents for new applications are updated at the end of the project delivery.

About you


To be successful in this role, you will have experience in the following areas:


  • Communicating and influencing at all levels across a business
  • Architecture and Technology Planning, including systems architecture, emerging technology planning
  • Business / IT Strategy, including coordination of information systems, understanding implications of business strategy for architecture
  • Advising and guiding colleagues at all levels within ITS
  • The ability to work independently and with a team
  • Ability to build and cost a solution from concept to technical solution
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF, Gartner)
  • Knowledge of new and emerging technologies and industry best practice
  • Knowledge of project delivery methodologies
  • Experience of establishing applications architecture standards
  • Experience designing and monitoring complex architectures
  • Experience providing consultancy to the business, including offering solutions to business needs meet requirements, and underpin the broader Enterprise Architecture.
