What you’ll be responsible for


You will work with our in-house solicitors, in particular, assisting our Senior Compliance Solicitor and Data Protection Officer on a wide variety of commercial work reflecting the breadth of Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water’s business including customer terms and retailing; data and privacy; procurement; IT; construction and development; joint venture with industry and academia; regulatory; and competition.   


What you’ll be responsible for:


  • Providing pragmatic and user-friendly legal advice on a variety of commercial issues, contracts and data protection to operational and group services colleagues.
  • Supporting all aspects of Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water’s data protection compliance programme through the provision of advice and completion of relevant documentation (including responding to data breach incidents; legitimate interest assessments; updating training materials, policies and Privacy Notices; Subject Access Requests and other individual rights requests).
  • Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contractual documentation to ensure that Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water purchases goods and services on commercially sound and risk appropriate terms and to support an increasing variety of innovation and joint venture projects.  
  • Supporting Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water’s energy team as it negotiates and contracts for the purchase of power and in relation to its development of self-generation energy sources.  
  • Providing advice and technical support to teams dealing with requests made under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.
  • Considering the relevance of competition law to Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water’s business activities and providing related advice. 
  • Undertaking legal research and gathering information from a variety of sources for the purposes of providing advice.
  • Accounting to business stakeholders for the progression of work.
  • Communicating learnings and identifying opportunities to share knowledge.

About you


  • Be a qualified Solicitor with 0-2 years PQE (PQE is a guide and other relevant skills, and experience will be considered) and working in a city or regionally based firm, or an in-house legal team
  • Relevant post graduate qualification, e.g., LPC, CILEx
  • Law degree or equivalent 
  • Some experience relevant to your PQE of the work described above and a demonstrable desire to develop your practice in these areas 
  • Water industry (or other regulated industry/utility) knowledge (desirable but not essential)  
  • Understand the legislative competence of Senedd Cymru
  • Be able to deliver accurate and reliable advice, in a user-friendly format, whilst building in practical solutions and working relationships built on trust
  • Be a self-starter, highly motivated and proactive in developing your skills and knowledge 
  • Be able to work to tight deadlines, react quickly, and remain calm under pressure
  • Willing to play your part in a friendly and supportive team
  • Enthusiastic about putting our customers first every day
