What you’ll be responsible for
Strategic Asset Planning Lead (Wastewater)
Will be responsible for developing the medium-term investment portfolio and the regulatory business plans based upon an overall view of portfolio risk fed from evidenced knowledge of its asset base, customer performance and other external risk factors.
The role holder will:
- Work closely with Strategy and Regulation and the Heads of Services to define critical sector uncertainties and deliver the required actions ensuring Business Planning strategies align with the regulatory returns for future price reviews.
- Develop the rolling medium-term investment plan (0-15 years) and the content of the rolling investment portfolio on behalf of the Asset Planning Director.
- Stress test the medium-term investment plans in terms of resilience, financial viability, residual risk exposure and provide investment menu options for executive consideration
- Coordinate and provide direction to all areas of the business accountable for strategic planning and bring this together to inform corporate direction and alignment with 2050 vision.
- Evaluating the business planning impacts of new obligations and drivers (environmental, quality, climate change for example) on the rolling investment programme.
- Supporting the assessment of Business Planning risk associated with the delivery of DCWW’s long term objectives, developing plausible business planning scenarios and menu options
- Be responsible for leading the development of Investment Cases for the 5-year regulatory Business Plan, liaising with Local Asset Management teams to ensure a financially balanced business plan submission in line with Regulatory drivers whilst serving business and customer needs.
- Ensure the development of programmes to best whole life cost and work with the Asset Managers to develop the Unit Cost Database
- Liaise closely with the Head of Resilience and be responsible for building resilience strategies into the immediate and medium-term business plans.
- Manage shared business planning resources effectively to meet the variable workload impacts of developing the 5-year regulatory business plan without impacting DCWW capability and capacity to develop and maintain robust medium to long-term portfolio plans.
- Coordinate and provide direction to all areas of the business accountable for strategic planning and bring this together to inform corporate direction and alignment with 2050 vision.
- Work with the Energy team to ensure the rolling investment programme is fully coordinated with the Company's energy strategies.
- Commission and manage external expert and consultancy support as appropriate through Asset Management Framework.
- Support the Operational business by being part of a standby rota most suitably aligned to your skillset.
- Undertaking any other duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

About you
Qualifications
- Degree level OR equivalent appropriate professional body qualification
Experience
- Operated at a Senior level within a business planning or asset management role, ideally within a regulated, customer facing, asset intensive sector.
- A financial background with strong business and portfolio planning skills across 0-15 year medium-term timescales
- Demonstrable track record of leading strategic business development and change, leading business through several cycles of business planning and improvement.
- Strong commercial/financial track record developed within a multi-stakeholder and regulated environment

- Excellent people management and motivational leadership with a track record of delivering outcomes and achievement of key targets
- Ability to manage effective relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including non-executive Boards and Executive teams to achieve business results
- Regulatory requirements expertise with working knowledge of local laws and regulations across key markets
- Ability to produce clear, well-structured reports which facilitates effective decision making
