What you’ll be responsible for
As a Works Operating Manual (WOMS) Technical Author, you will be responsible for:
- The development, design and delivery of Waste Water and Potable Water Works Operating Manuals (WOMS), Operating Instructions and other IMS Technical documentation within the Source
- The communication and implementation within DCWW of the Integrated Management Systems (IMS)
- Have extensive experience of water and waste water process operations and be able to work independently with little direct supervision to undertake operation asset surveys, collate and gather technical information on sites and transcribe them into complex technical documents including WOMs
- Be able to interpret and manipulate complex design data to extract pertinent detail and transcribe this into a format suitable for daily operational use
- Collaborate with the LEAN RCM Delivery team to ensure that all LEAN rounds are correctly identified in technical documents including WOMS
- Identify challenges and solutions in relation to complex technical operational processes and resolve with support from the WOMs Team Manager technical issues relating to handover of new works and associated schemes and the transfer of this information into the WOMs including technical design, technical drawing and the technical authoring using tools such as AutoCad, Revit, SolidWorks etc
- Design and complete complex detailed site surveys to capture of all on-site details for WOMs maintenance and production following Capital Schemes or other significant alterations to plant or processes
- Collaborate with the WOMs Team Manager to drive in innovation in the IMS and Asset Information Team and help deliver new innovative projects such as AR, NFC, RFID and QR Code applications on behalf of the Operational business
- Be responsible for the Indexing and Metadata reset of unstructured data on SAP Infozone helping to ensure that DCWW data is suitable for the migration into the new Document Management System (DMS)
- Be responsible for high levels of data accuracy and personal elements of compliance ensuring the maintenance of the WOMS Team ISO 9001:2015 Certification
- Undertake detailed technical rewrites of Operating Manuals and procedures including the design and completion of site asset surveys and schematic generation using digital design tool
- Work cooperatively with colleagues delivering other aspects of external standards including ISO55001, PAS99, OHSAS 18001, ISO 27001, ISO / IEC 17025 and MCerts (Minimum Requirements for the Self Monitoring of Effluent Flow) and with the IMS Advisors and wider Asset Information Team
- Design, creation and maintenance of Potable Water and Waste Water Operating Manuals and Instructions to including Waste Water and Potable Water Treatment Works, Primary and Secondary Trunk Mains, Trunk Main Schematics, Service Reservoirs, Water Pumping Stations, Urban Waste Water Treatment Works and Operator Self-Monitoring sites
- Technical asset data creation and manipulation using established data tools such as AutoCad, Revit, SolidWorks, Tableau, Excel and SharePoint

About you
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- A relevant qualification in an applicable discipline or equivalent experience
- Experience in Technical Authoring
- Experience in designing and undertaking operational Surveys and creating schematics from the information identified
- Experience of quality (ISO 9001) and environmental (ISO 14001) management systems
- Experience of water and waste water operational treatment process
- A proven track record in the delivery of relevant complex technical publications and understanding of the relevant external standards
- Proficient in the use of a sample of Data and Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software packages (ie AutoDesk AutoCAD Revit, SolidWorks, Tableau, Excel and SharePoint)
- High levels of accuracy in the delivery of complex data
- High level of communication skill both written and verbal
- Ability to deliver relevant awareness sessions
