What you’ll be responsible for

 

As a credible member of the Advanced Digestion Team you will:


•    Form part of a team that will be responsible for the 24 hour operation and maintenance of sludge treatment and associated plant, 
•    Work to agreed standards to ensure the organisation meets its health & safety, contractual, regulatory, operational and financial targets.

 

As Technical Operator you will:


•    Have primary responsibility for operation and maintenance of sludge screening, sludge imports, centrifuges, odour control, Cambi™ process, water treatment, steam boilers, CHP plant, digestion process, return liquors, thermally hydrolysed sludge dewatering and sludge export. 
•    Demonstrate ownership of process problems & manage the decision-making process outside of the conventional working day.
•    Responsible for the operation, maintenance and monitoring of all operational processes associated with sludge treatment including sludge screening, sludge imports, centrifuges, odour control, Cambi™ process, water treatment, steam boilers, CHP plant, digestion process, return liquors, thermally hydrolysed sludge dewatering and sludge export.. This will also include shadowing and assisting external maintenance engineers.
•    Proactively carry out planned maintenance and operational checks to time and required standards.
•    Undertake sampling of all processes as per instructions and record any analysis in the site log.
•    Manage sludge stocks ensuring that there is capacity for adequately desludging the WWTW. Liaise with the Waste Services Controller and import / export contractors as necessary and manage the dewatered sludge bays and sludge cake storage building.
•    Monitor and seek to maximise performance of CHPs, liaising closely with the CHP Manager and maintenance providers.
•    Actively take part in risk assessments, COSHH assessments and all health and safety issues.
•    Identify problematic plant and the subsequent faults, rectify where possible and escalate to Operations Supervisor as appropriate.

About you

 

Experience, Qualifications and Skills

 

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to asses risk and adopt a safe working practice to undertake task
  • IT Literate
  • Waste Water on NVQ and BTEC 
  • Competency of working with ‘Live steam apparatus’ 
  • Demonstrate the ability to offer technical expertise, contribute to discussions, improve others awareness who may have generalised but less process specific knowledge
  • Previous experience in working in waste water business would be desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with steam boiler systems and combined heat and power engines.
  • Knowledge and use of interface systems eg scada, HMI
  • Experience in operating Advanced Digestion  processes 
  • Completed “Managing safely” course

Good to know

 

•    As a Technical Operator shift cover, you will be expected to work 16 shifts per month organised and arranged through your line manager. Shifts will comprise of 12 hours days or nights; you will also be required to cover or support at one of the other Advanced Digestion sites. (42 hr contract)
