What you’ll be responsible for
As a member of the Water Production Central Management Team, you will provide day to day management and supervision of the Operations team and support in the continuous improvement of performance within the PWS team. Key responsibilities include:
- Health and Safety supervisory responsibility for all those involved in the activities within the geographic operating area, including direct and sub contract workforces.
- Responsible for ensuring that the treatment of potable water supplies are undertaken to the highest expected standards and manage resources to deliver safe, clean drinking water.
- Ensure that all PWS production targets are hit, achieving optimal water resource and treatment asset utilisation, whilst delivering sector leading water quality.
- Deliver serviceability targets on all relevant water production targets for the operating area
- Ensure that all routine activities are undertaken as scheduled.
- Manage the operational area to deliver the lowest cost of service in terms of operating efficiency as measured against opex and capex targets.
- Work closely with the Production Planner to identify and prioritise maintenance activities, and ensure they are undertaken in a safe manner.
- Develop an effective and motivated workforce ensuring good communication and teamwork through undertaking regular team briefings, 1-1s and performance development reviews.
- Establish a high performance culture with appropriate training and full implementation of new ways of working required to achieve both quality improvements and cost efficiencies
- Work with the Capital teams and Alliance partners to ensure safe and effective delivery of on-site schemes, ensuring there is no operational impact
- Be an effective team player, supporting other team colleagues and promoting best practice and standardisation to improve business performance.
- Carry out other duties as required to meet business needs
Who you’ll work with
Internal
- Strong working relationships within the Water Services team particularly the regional scientific teams, DWSP teams, planned maintenance teams, local asset management teams
- Regular liaison with the water quality regulation team, asset strategy, capital delivery, emergency planning, and operational control centre
- Procurement, finance and HR teams
External
- Key contract partners to ensure Brought in Services are being executed safely, cost effectively and at appropriate levels of service
- DWI as required in support of the Water Quality team
- Health and Safety Executive as required
- Environment Agency in relation to discharges and abstractions
- Local authorities and emergency planning groups
About you
The following are essential requirements of this role:
- Proven supervisory experience with water treatment operation knowledge and ability to demonstrate a proven track record of success
- Experience gained through thorough understanding of water service operations delivery
- Able to demonstrate commercial experience in cost management and delivering efficiencies in operational budgets
- Experience of managing operational teams, inspiring and motivating teams, successfully implementing initiatives, managing change and developing an effective water production team
- Enthusiastic about putting our customers first every day
- An ability to think strategically but with a strong focus on ensuring day to day water operations operates effectively and efficiently
- A team player who understands the importance of ownership and accountability
- The ability to develop positive working relationships
- Effective communication skills and ability to translate initiatives and directives into actions that are fully understood by the team. Able to deal with external stakeholders in a professional manner promoting a positive image of DCWW at all times
Good to know
The successful candidate will be required to participate in a standby rota. Standby requirement 1 day in 13.
Site based role alternating time between operational sites under your supervision.
Working hours:
- Mon- Thu 08:00 -16:00
- Fri – 08:00 – 15:30
