What you’ll be responsible for

 

 

As a credible member of the Quality Policy and Compliance team, you will:

  • Provide a trusted, high quality service to customers, regulators and other external stakeholders, supporting the organisations vision to ‘earn the trust of our customers every day’.
  • Ensure that sampling and analysis are carried out independently to meet the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 and that the company’s statutory and regulatory responsibilities with regard to drinking water and wastewater are met and the regulatory risk to the business is managed effectively.

 

 

Key tasks and responsibilities Include: 

  • Supervise a team of Analysts and /or Technicians within the Chemistry Department in support of the Department Manager
  • Ensure that all relevant Health and Safety and Environmental standards are adhered to within the Laboratory.
  • Analyse water samples using a variety of Chemistry methods and using a variety of techniques and instrumentation to comply with UK regulations
  • Manage staff resources on daily basis to ensure all analyses and other tasks are completed on time.
  • Support the Chemistry Department Manager and where required deputise in their absence.
  • Provide support to the Quality Assurance Manager during audits.
  • Monitor water quality for the purpose of protecting public health
  • Critically evaluate scientific data and accurately report results onto LIMS within agreed timescales in order to satisfy regulators and operations delivery.
  • Troubleshooting and basic equipment maintenance and ensure quality and efficiency of instrumentation.
  • Work within the framework of the Quality Management System, following strict guidelines to covering technique, process and reporting including accurate record keeping compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 DWTS. 
  • Follow health and safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment and comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • Review methods, COSHH and risk assessments
  • Review, check suitability and authorise results 
  • Responding to incidents and emergencies, co-ordinating resources and staff effectively to deliver timely, accurate data for incident management purposes. 

 

About you

 

Experience, Qualifications and Skills

 

  • Technical background, qualified to degree level (preference will be given to a scientific degree). (equivalent relevant experience may be considered as an alternative to formal qualifications)
  • Good understanding and experience of  computer packages including  Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Previous relevant experience in working within an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving abilities
  • Experience in leadership and supervision.
  • Understanding COSHH and Health and Safety regulations, and experience in producing risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of the Potable Water Industry.
  • Membership of a professional body, ideally at chartered status.

Location: lab based at Glaslyn Lab in Newport, South Wales.

Shift Pattern: M-F 8am-4pm

Standby: 1 in 6 weekends and during standby weeks, you will work 10am-6pm. You will be paid extra standby payments.
