What you’ll be responsible for

 

As the technical modelling manager, you will be the technical expert for the organisation on wastewater hydraulic modelling and lead a team of experts providing an understanding to the business of the capacity of our sewer network and how we can meet our performance obligation through network intervention. You will also work closely with operations to support them, through use of our models, in innovative ways of removing unwanted flows and meeting our performance metrics. 

 

  1. Managing and maintaining the Waste Hydraulic Model Library, providing central governance across the multiple users. You will ensure the models are viewed as vital asset information and ensure their provision of models for other users such as capital delivery, asset management functions, asset planning and the DWMP for strategic planning.
  2. Managing a team of technically competent hydraulic modellers and assistant modellers, ensuring they are up to date with industry best practice on modelling.
  3. Managing the delivery of the AMP 8 tactical modelling plan, undertaking hydraulic model assessment of storm overflows as required by our NEP and supporting PR29 investment plans. You will provide a client role when procurement frameworks are utilised for delivery of model upgrades and lead our newly created Modelling Hub.
  4. Ensure DCWW modelling practices, processes and specifications are industry leading, initiating innovation where required. You will ensure our modelling hub is collaborative and our consultants work closely to ensure we have an industry leading approach to hydraulic modelling and its use within the organisation
  5. Ensuring our models are fit for purpose, cover all our catchments, in line with our modelling strategy to support the development of the programmes of work for PR planning and the DWMP planning.
  6. Leading network capacity and growth impact assessments for new developments, providing a strong customer service to DCWW developer services function.
  7. Providing a support to operational services in root cause analysis and mitigation measures where applicable for service failures. You will support operational innovation, finding ways to best utilise our models in conjunction with new techniques in network monitoring and analysis, to support meeting our tighter performance targets and removal of unwanted flows.
  8. Leading the development of hydraulic models to support all water quality coastal & riverine studies.
  9. Ensuring a strong link with DWMP and oversee hydraulic model upgrades as one of the critical tools in the preparation of the DWMP.
  10. Undertaking any other duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

About you

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification (Engineering – civil preferred, or other relevant subject) or substantial experience in a relevant role

 

Experience

  • Substantial experience in the Water Industry, with a specific understanding of hydraulic modelling and a proven expertise in build, verification and design, with good working experience of Infoworks ICM or similar packages
  • Experienced in the practical use of relevant Geographic Information System (GIS) software (Arc GIS preferably) 
  • Good working knowledge of waste water network design and operation
  • Proven experience of managing and developing technical experts
