What you’ll be responsible for
As a credible member of the Quality Policy and Compliance team, you will:
Provide a trusted, high quality service to customers, regulators and other external stakeholders, supporting the organisations vision to ‘earn the trust of our customers every day’.
Ensure that sampling and analysis are carried out independently to meet the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 and that the company’s statutory and regulatory responsibilities with regard to drinking water and wastewater are met and the regulatory risk to the business is managed effectively.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Prepare and extract water quality samples using a variety of extraction techniques.
- Routine housekeeping, surface disinfection, equipment maintenance and waste disposal.
- Calibrate basic laboratory equipment including, but not limited to, balances, pipettes and syringes.
- Assist in ensuring that laboratory is ready and stock up for carrying out analysis.
- Adhere to all relevant regulations, legislation and certifications
- Understand and adhere to the Laboratory Quality System and the instructions there in.
- Understand the importance of the role in effective monitoring of water quality for protection of public health.
- Effectively monitor water quality for the purpose of protecting public health.
- Work within the framework of the Quality Policy following strict guidelines covering technique, process and reporting including accurate record keeping, to ensure compliance with ISO IEC 17025 standards.
- Follow health and safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment and comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
- Provide logistical support to the laboratory, logging-in samples into the company LIMS system and ensuring sample bottles are stored in the correct location and under the correct conditions.
- Assist in the disposal of water samples following completion of analysis, in line with agreed procedures.

About you
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Minimum qualification such as NVQ level 3 or A’ level in an appropriate scientific subject. (equivalent relevant experience may be considered as an alternative to formal qualifications)
- Good computing skills
- Good communication skills
- Previous experience in working within a UKAS accredited laboratory
- Awareness of COSHH and Health and Safety
Good to know
Role is lab based on an 8-week fixed shift rota
8am - 4pm over 5 weeks
2pm - 10pm over 3 weeks.
Weekend and Bank Holiday working
2 weekends over 10 weeks, 2 – 10pm (rest days are given following the working weekend (Monday and Tuesday, or Monday and Friday)
1 in 10 Bank Holidays, 2-10pm
15% Shift Allowance
