What you’ll be responsible for

As a Wastewater Process Scientist, you will be required to provide specialist scientific, process and technical support across the region, in order to ensure that the business aims of achieving 100% wastewater treatment works compliance are met and minimising the numbers of pollution incidents.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

 

  1. Supporting the Process Scientist in the technical assessment of wastewater assets including sludgeprocesses in order to optimise performance in the drive for 100% compliance
  2. Providing Scientific Advice and direction within designated areas
  3. Implementing “best scientific practice” across the region
  4. Closely monitoring asset performance for compliance supporting the Catchment Managers and the Capital delivery and local asset management team in supporting the business need for mitigation and targeted capital investment in order for Welsh Water to pursue and deliver 100% wastewater treatment works and a reduction in pollution incidents
  5. Assisting the Process Scientist in influencing, developing and implementing ‘improvement programmes’ in line with QMS procedures in the regional business area
  6. Ensuring procedures and activities comply with all H&S legislation and Welsh Water Health & Safety policy in maintaining a safe working environment
  7. Effectively managing and coach Process Science Technicians in the Science & Support section
  8. Optimising new wastewater treatment works assets and planned capital maintenance projects influencing design
  9. Investigating wastewater treatment works compliance failures and recommending remedial actions
  10. Collating scientific data and preparing reports to deadlines
  11. Understanding the impact of industrial effluents affecting the performance of wastewater treatment works and networks. Working closely with Trade Effluent colleagues on identifying remedial measures
  12. Assisting in the development of EMS and QMS
  13. Assisting with the development of HACCP plans, verification surveys and liaising with the Bio-Solids Manager and Catchment Managers
  14. Keeping abreast of developments in technology and legislation regarding sewage and sludge treatment
  15. Assisting in the control of and recording of OPNOTS

About you

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills 

  • A degree level qualification, or equivalent, in a relevant subject
  • A proven track record of sector leading performance in Wastewater & Sludge Treatment
  • Experience gained through thorough understanding of wastewater service delivery and highly competent in terms of leading high performance teams
  • Experience of managing and developing a team of qualified individuals
  • Effective communication skills
  • Able to demonstrate a commercial approach to cost efficiency and leading large scale change programmes to achieve a high performance business culture
  • An ability to think strategically but also able to ensure effective day to day delivery of services
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships and to be seen as a highly credible representative of the business
  • Ability to travel as job requires

  • This role has a combination of Home/Office and site-based working.
