What you’ll be responsible for

Contributing in all operational activities to ensure consistent delivery of potable water to our customers  


This will include:
 

  1. Operating the water distribution network and assets in the safest and most cost effective way, capturing data and applying procedures in a compliant manner.
  2. Complying with all company Health and Safety Policies & Procedures, with the safety of yourself, colleagues, contractors and customers always in mind.
  3. Undertaking Network monitoring, diagnosing problems and arriving at and implementing Network Solutions and alternatives that ensure we meet our Measures of Success.
  4. You will need to understand hydraulic principles and carry out operations of all components of the Water Distribution network in line with the training that you have received.  
  5. Ensuring all on site activity and asset data is captured in a compliant, timely and accurate manner in our corporate system.
  6. Generating work orders accurately for delivery by our supply chain for all below and above ground assets and support when required to ensure safe operation/maintenance.
  7. Enforcing basic water regulations through communication with customer and liaison with water regulations department to ensure DWI and Water Act 1991 requirements are met. Investigate, identify and escalate water quality issues to ensure that public health is protected at all times.
  8. Carrying out inspections of the Company’s assets when required in order to identify, escalate and report any issues identified which could affect the safety, effectiveness/operational working order or long term condition of the asset. You will be expected to rectify certain defects, if safe to do so, and ensure that sites are left safe.
  9. Taking an active role in the protection of our assets through working with internal and external stakeholders who are undertaking work which may present a risk. Enforcement of Apparatus Damage Report procedures when damage does occur.
  10. Managing a scheduled workload as appropriate based on the job’s importance and urgency whilst working on a mobile basis out in the field. 
  11. Understanding and implementing leakage techniques or principles and able to detect leakage on the network or customer supply pipes when required, ensuring effective liaison with internal and external stakeholders to deliver leakage targets and ensure efficiency.
  12. Supporting the development of internal colleagues and external stakeholders through knowledge sharing and mentoring.
  13. Attending emergency calls and alarms taken via the Operational Response Centre and Retail Business, assessing the response needed and initiate procedures required to resolve the problem.
  14. Attending customer appointments and face to face interactions with customers in the resolution of their enquieries
  15. Ensuring that all GIS updates are submitted to GIS bureau to allow Welsh Water to maintain high quality and accurate information

About you

Knowledge, Skills & Experience 

  • Current, full valid driving licence    
  • Good level of customer service experience    
  • Computer Literate     
  • Good interpersonal skills    
  • Knowledge of the water industry    
  • Effective communication skills; ability to communicate in both Welsh and English advantageous   
  • The drive and ambition to provide a first class service to our customers    
  • Sound understanding of Microsoft software packages including but not limited to Excel, Word    
  • Willingness to both work alone and as part of a team
  • The ability to build and maintain good networks with team members, internal departments, company partners and contractors    
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and in difficult circumstances, whilst still providing an unbiased service to our customers    

Good to know

  • The successful candidate will be required to participate in a standby rota and planned working time 
  • A company vehicle will be provided including full PPE
