What you’ll be responsible for
As a credible Health and Safety Advisor you will lead and support allocated areas of the business to effectively manage health and safety and drive continuous improvement. Working alongside, mentoring and supporting Line Managers you will provide an advisory support service specialist advice for allocated business areas. You will be expected to undertake a programme of continual professional development to enhance health and safety knowledge and customer satisfaction. A key element of this role will be to develop positive relationships with key regulators, internal and external stakeholders and be an ambassador for the health and safety profession.
This role will mainly support the Water, Waste, Retail and Group areas of the business across WW Northern operating areas well as taking the lead on projects such as H&S Communications plan and/or safety awareness events and campaigns.
Your responsibilities include:
- Reporting to the Head of Operational H&S, working with and supporting the Senior Health and Safety Advisers and other team members to provide an exemplary health and safety advisory services to the business and delivering the strategic health, safety and wellbeing plan.
- Provision of risk management and health, safety and wellbeing advice for line managers and employees within allocated operational and non-operational business areas and supporting on specific operational health and safety issues e.g. confined spaces, COSHH, risk assessment, contractor management etc.
- Provision of safety information and support for specified operational contractors working for DCWW
- Taking the lead on specific health and safety issues and project work. Directing colleagues to undertake actions linked to specific issues and projects.
- Supporting the investigation of health and safety injuries and incidents and facilitating the production of reports, documentation and identification of root cause and business improvements within the required timescales.
- Supporting the development and delivery of health and safety awareness training sessions and workshops.
- Lead and support the development and delivery of specified health and safety policies, procedures and improvement activities. Report on progress and change to key business forums.
- Developing health and safety bulletins, alerts and toolbox talks.
- Carrying out health and safety site and system audits and inspections. Including annual major risk reviews.
- Use and training support for bespoke health and safety software systems. Ensuring data accuracy and provision of targeted reports for teams.
About you
Essential Qualifications
• Qualified to NEBOSH Certificate level or equivalent.
• Full UK driver’s licence with the ability to travel as the job requires.
Desirable Qualification
• NEBOSH Diploma level 6 desirable and actively participating in CPD.
Experience
• Experience in a health and safety advisory role and delivering excellent customer service. Ideally in a diverse operational role and within utilities sector.
• Experience of producing clear and effective written documents with ability to challenge performance.
• Experience of delivering presentations and effective facilitation skills.
• Project management experience and ability to oversee project delivery to time and budget.
Knowledge & Skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to prioritise workload and conflicting demands whilst being able to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Ability to think creatively and develop/drive improvement activities.
• The ability to gather understand and analyse critical information quickly and make timely, practical and effective decisions.
• Confident and authoritative with professional credibility.
• IT literate – familiar with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
