What you’ll be responsible for
As a Design Engineer you will:
- Work collaboratively within the Water Network Alliance team and beyond, taking the lead on projects and providing support on others to ensure best practice designs that adhere to DCWW standard specifications.
- Be Responsible for the design of a planned programme of work on pressurised and gravity water pipelines.
- Inspire all colleagues working with you through the provision of a stimulating and challenging debate to promote innovative and cost effective design solutions.
- Comply with DCWW Health and Safety requirements and ensure all projects designed comply with the CDM Regulations 2015.
- Responsible for maintaining quality management systems for both internal and external delivery of design projects.
- Represent DCWW at meetings with key stakeholders where required, to ensure resolution on behalf of DCWW on any issues that may arise in relation to the design of pipelines.
- Ensure DCWW’s interests are protected at all times and that risks to the business are minimised.
Principle Accountabilities:
- Responsible for the design of an agreed programme of planned work to an agreed timeline, taking appropriate action to address any slippage
- Responsible for making sure projects are designed safely, on time and within budget, working closely with other members of the Water Network Alliance design team and operations
- Responsible for making sure that all pipeline designs activities are carried out uniformly and to the appropriate DCWW standard specification, while challenging and developing specifications to give industry best practice
- Participate in robust design project reviews for existing and new projects before they are delivered
- Take ownership from project conception threw to completion
- Support the delivery teams and operations in developing the Network Alliance programme
- Responsible for making sure all design work complies with the CDM Regulations 2015
- Approve any design changes during delivery
- Input into and participate in robust monthly reporting and reviews
- On project completion review with operations and project co-ordinators
- Share Industry best practice within the team while delivering innovative solutions

About you
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- A civil engineering background with a degree or equivalent essential
- Extensive knowledge and experience of the design and operation of water pipelines in the water industry - minimum 5 years
- Experience and understanding of Health and Safety Legislation including CDM 2015 Regulations
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplined engineering team environment
- Knowledge and understanding of NEC Contracts
- Knowledge and understanding of TMA noticing
- Knowledge and use of CAD system with City and Guilds qualification desirable
- Excellent communicator and a team player who understands the importance of ownership and accountability
- The ability to work to tight regulatory and project deadlines

- The successful candidate will be required to participate in a standby rota.
- This role includes hybrid working.
