What you’ll be responsible for


As Trunk Mains Technician you will:

 

  • Provide technical support for the area and become the expert on Assets and Trunk mains network, this will include:  Providing advice to customers, other departments and external agencies when required on all aspects of Trunk main and assets within your area. 
  • The successful candidate will work alongside the Operational Supervisor, Performance Manager, and the Network Analyst across the geographical area to ensure the Network is operated at the highest standard possible.
  • Have a High level of Network experience with a sound understanding of Microsoft software packages including but not limited to Excel, Word, Access along with the company’s internal SAP packages and Prism.
  • Manage SRV levels and inlet controls. 
  • Deal with sometimes difficult situations in a friendly and professional manner, whilst striving for a speedy resolution. 
  • Work closely with the distribution inspector team, carrying out site visits, assisting and assessing against their set tasks. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both written and oral which will enable you to deal with internal and external parties in a professional manner, developing solutions and communicating these across the organisation as efficiently and effectively as possible.
  • Efficiently organise your own time, handling routine work with a minimum of supervision, assessing priorities whilst demonstrating ability to work to tight deadlines and in difficult circumstances, whilst still providing an unbiased service to our customers.
  • Assist in the day-to-day delivery of Trunk mains repairs on Capital Programme 
  • Ensure operation of Network assets is undertaken in full compliance of Health and safety procedures. Populate and retain all records, Certificates of isolation, Permits to work and risk assessments.
  • Compliance with Health & Safety procedures, raising appropriate assure entries including Near miss, Hazard interventions, TRACA observations and WP inspections.
  • Achieve the optimisation of assets to ensure customers receive a quality water supply, achieve power savings with zero impact on the environment.
  • Issue relevant permits and / or certificates of isolation to ensure the safe operation of the network.
  • Undertake Trunk main checks to determine any leakage / burst main occurrence access to assets issues.
  • Assist with managing compliance – including SRV cleaning, Trunk mains walking and site checks. 
  • Work within a team of people who are focused on performance objectives in line with the team and company goals.
  • Respond to site alarms in accordance with priority status ensuring any follow work is captured / reported and completed within time scale.
  • To assist in the commissioning of new capital schemes and assist with the initiation and design of small capital schemes.

About you


Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

  • Educated to BTEC / HNC in a numerate or engineering subject  
  • Relevant experience in the water industry ideally working in one or more of the following areas:  Distribution, Production, hydraulics or customer service.   
  • Able to demonstrate effective management of service reservoir and water pumping stations in respect of health and safety, water quality and efficiency.
  • The ability to develop positive working relationships across the distribution team and wider organisation.
  • The ability to communicate with external and internal bodies with regard to network performance.
  • A team player who understands the importance of ownership and accountability.
  • Able to demonstrate the Technical ability to identify network issues and implement improvements.
  • Able to work as part of a team and on your own with attention to detail and under pressure.
     

Good to know

 

  • Full UK Driving License required.
  • Company vehicle provided.
  • Requirement to participate in standby rota and 260 hours of planned overtime with additional earnings
