What you’ll be responsible for

 

The Stores Team is responsible for supplying materials to Water Services teams and it’s contractors. The materials planner will play a critical role in ensuring that the supply of materials meet business demand profiles and minimum stock levels to ensure operational continuity. The materials planner will be able to deliver efficient, effective and flexible solutions to meet business requirements and maintains strong relationships both internally and externally to ensure supply of materials meets demand requirements. The stores function is currently undergoing a transformation, and as such the material planner will be required to support on project activities focused on transforming the service during the transition.   
 

Accountabilities: 

1.    Plan, develop, implement and evaluate processes for material delivery from supplier to stores.

2.    Schedule the supply of materials/components to meet business demand requirements and minimum safety stock levels. 

3.    Liaising with Welsh Waters water network supply chain partners, logistics and merchant providers to get consistent updates on stock levels, delivery dates and communicate any delays.

4.    Assess volume requirements against demand planning assumptions, considering seasonal variations. 

5.    Take follow up actions in relation to material shortages that may impact the ability to deliver demand requirements. 

6.    Understand and manage risks related to supply of materials to minimise impact on operational teams. 

7.    Utilise SAP and DCWW stock dashboard to ensure that data is accurate and up to date to provide management information on stock levels.

8.    Monitor the integrity of Bill of Materials (BOM) and manage inventory accuracy, through undertaking perpetual stock checks on all operational stores, to ensure on site stock levels match levels recorded in SAP and resolve any discrepancies as required.

9.    Monitor inventory levels against agreed target levels, including meter levels stored within DCC to support the smart metering programme.

10.    Review strategic stock levels to ensure that all items are above a prescribed threshold for all operational areas and preparing stock levels for seasonal variations.

11.    Age profiling of stock to ensure that stock is rotated as a standard activity at each site to remove the risk of stock being written off due to age and condition.

12.    Implement all processes to agreed standards and targets and support continuous improvement initiatives and identify areas of improvement.

About you

 

Experience

  1. Ideally 3 years+ experience operating within a stock / stores environment.
  2. Detailed and relevant knowledge of processes and procedures that can be adopted to Welsh Water's environment.
  3. Knowledge of inventory management / materials planning / continuous improvement tools and application.
  4. Experience of managing and building relationships with key stakeholders, such as business leaders and support functions.
  5. Influencing and negotiation skills to gain commitment from third parties and employees at all levels.


Knowledge & Skills

  1. Enthusiastic about putting our customers first every day
  2. Effective communication skills and the ability to translate initiatives into actions that are fully understood by the team
  3. Ability to manage effective relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to achieve business result
  4. Strong IT skills including use of Excel and experience of data analysis to support the management of stock
  5. Strong analytical, planning and problem-solving skills 
  6. Knowledge of using a company stock management system (training on Welsh Water's corporate systems will be provided)
  7. Experience in safety management for stores auditing and stock control purposes
