What you’ll be responsible for


As a Maintenance Technician / Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for undertaking planned maintenance activities at our DCWW assets including wastewater Treatment works, sewage pumping stations and combined storm overflows. You will contribute to safeguarding the environment now and for future generations, meeting and maintaining compliance in line with our environmental permits. Your key responsibilities will include:

 

  • Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on all equipment relating to the Welsh Water asset base in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns.
  • Investigating the nature of plant failures and subsequently carrying out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible in order to avoid interruptions to service and in order to ensure compliance.
  • Proactively identifying and preventing mechanical failures in a timely manner
  • Carrying out like for like installations, refurbishment and assist with commissioning equipment to specification and on time.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings of various equipment to ensure correct tolerance and fits are maintained for efficient plant operation.
  • Maintaining a general knowledge of the treatment processes and the variations at individual assets to enable an accurate and speedy assessment of problems and their consequential results.
  • Inspecting, repairing, installing, and testing mechanical and electrical equipment in order to ensure that mandatory legislative requirements are met.
  • Carrying out an assessment of spares and materials required to complete work effectively, where necessary ordering additional items via the Supervisor or direct from supplier.
  • Implementing and maintaining the Information Management System (IMS) procedures always to ISO standard. Keep IMS records to ensure that they are satisfactory for internal and BSI audits.
  • Using a mobile device to record all work details and all accounted for time.
  • Liaising closely within the Alliance Partnership to ensure that all large capital schemes are implemented effectively and efficiently.

About you

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

 

  • A recognised apprenticeship in mechanical/electrical or dual skilled engineering to at least NVQ level 3 or equivalent 
  • Must be a fully qualified industrial electrician.    
  • Driving licence
  • Ability to work alone and as a member of a team.
  • IT literate in Microsoft Office applications including various Apps, training will be provided on the systems we use.
  • Transferrable Experience to ensure full compliance and adherence to all H&S procedures. 
  • Maintenance Knowledge of electrical systems, pumping systems, and rotating machinery, desirable but not essential
     

Please note: This position will be a dual-skilled position covering the requirements of a ‘Maintenance Technician’. Where required, training will be provided to ensure the successful job incumbent has all the mechanical and / or electrical skills required to carry out the full remit of the role.

  • Site based work at the Five Fords Bio Solids Treatment Works
  • Company Vehicle Provided 
  • Requirement to cover standby (1 in 4) and 260 hours of planned overtime. Potential additional unplanned overtime in excess of this will be in line with business requirements.
  • Shift pattern Mon-Fri  8-4pm 
     

A key element of this role will be the maintenance of the wastewater Treatment works, Sewage pumping stations and equipment on our AAD plant, which includes Boilers, Cambi and Centrifuges including quality proactive planned maintenance and reactive faults on mechanical equipment.
