What you’ll be responsible for
As a Maintenance Technician (electrical bias), your responsibilities will include:
- In this field-based role, you will be part of a team working on planned activities for Welsh Water assets eg improvement projects and preventative maintenance works, as well as reacting to failures across the area.
- Investigating the nature of plant failures and carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on all equipment relating to the Welsh Water asset base to minimise plant breakdowns.
- Carrying out like for like installations, refurbishments and assisting with commissioning equipment to specification, on time and in line with company procedures.
- Carrying out an audit of spares and materials required to complete work effectively, ordering necessary items via your supervisor or direct from supplier.
- Following company health & safety procedures - being accountable for your own health & safety and having a duty of care to your colleagues and anyone affected by the work you do.
- Dealing with sometimes difficult situations in a friendly, positive and professional manner, whilst striving for a speedy resolution.
- Updating information in various IT systems daily.
- Liaising with outside contractors on large capital schemes ensuring they are delivered effectively and efficiently in full compliance with Health & Safety and company procedures.
- Organising your own time, handling routine work with a minimum of supervision.
- Undertaking any other duties as required to meet the needs of the business.
About you
Essential Skills:
• A recognised apprenticeship in electrical or dual skilled engineering awarded with an NVQ Level 3 qualification or City & Guilds equivalent
• Full driving licence
• Experience of working in a team
• Experience of analysing information to spot potential problems
• Practical experience gained in industry to support your apprenticeship and ensure full compliance and adherence to all H&S procedures
• Able to communicate well, listen and respond appropriately to solve problems
• Able to build and maintain good networks with internal departments
• Able to work to tight deadlines, sometimes in difficult circumstances
• Awareness of regulatory bodies such as DWI (Drinking Water Inspectorate) and NRW (Natural Resources Wales)
• Able to use Microsoft software packages and other operational systems
Good to know
- The successful candidate will participate in Standby on call (1 week out of every 6 weeks), and also participate in 260 hours planned working time.
