What you’ll be responsible for
Summary
We are looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable Town Planner to join the Capital Delivery Enabling Services team. The successful candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge and experience of the Town and Country Planning process, as well as associated consenting requirements, including SAB approval, and will be able to demonstrate the ability to work effectively within regulatory and project deadlines.
You will be responsible for providing expert technical advice and support as part of the Enabling Services team to ensure projects are delivered in line with programme requirements and associated regulatory commitments as part of the AMP8 business plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing sound Town Planning and third-party consenting advice, support and guidance to internal stakeholders and Capital Delivery partners regarding the delivery of schemes as part of the Capital Delivery investment programme.
- Embedding Customer Led Success principles across all aspects of programme delivery, with a particular focus on ensuring planning and enabling activities contribute to earning the trust of our customers every day.
- Supporting our delivery frameworks in a fair and reasonable manner to enable the timely progression of projects. Building effective relationships, engaging stakeholders and helping to resolve issues that may put programme objectives at risk.
- Working effectively with internal engineering and delivery teams, the Engineering Consultancy Service (ECS) and framework partner teams to ensure our customers have confidence in our approach to enabling activities, particularly in relation to planning and consenting matters and challenges.
- Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with Local Authorities and other key external stakeholders involved in the Town Planning and third-party consenting processes (including SAB) to promote consistency and efficiency in planning and consenting activities.
- Building effective working relationships with Asset Planning, Water and Wastewater Asset teams, and operational teams to maintain alignment of strategy, delivery and business plan outcomes.
- Supporting the development and implementation of programme delivery strategies for enabling activities, ensuring consistency of approach across other Enabling Services functions.
- Managing the performance, training and development of direct reports in accordance with all Human Resources policies and procedures, including regular contact, one-to-one meetings and performance reviews.
- Undertaking any other duties required to meet the needs of the business.

About you
The following are essential requirements for this role:
Qualifications
- Professional qualification or education to degree level, or equivalent, with extensive knowledge and experience of the water industry.
Experience
- Ideally 5 years+ knowledge, experience and understanding of the Town & Country Planning and major infrastructure consenting processes.
- Experience of working with a range of stakeholders, including Developers, Local Authorities and Environmental Regulators.
- Experience and understanding of the AMP investment processes, with particular focus on the National Environment Programme

- Ability to work effectively to challenging regulatory and project deadlines.
