Leakage Inspector

What you’ll be responsible for

Working in this role, you will be part of a team responsible for the operation and maintenance of Welsh Water’s underground water network.  

You will help to resolve potential or actual network/leakage issues to ensure water supply is maintained and to minimise the level of inconvenience to the customer. 
 

1. Responding to and resolving issues raised by customers and members of the public, liaising with internal departments and contract partners as required.
2. Ensuring Welsh Water leakage targets are achieved through the use of a range of leakage reduction and detection techniques.
3. Following all company Health & Safety procedures, taking responsibility for your own safety and maintaining a duty of care towards colleagues, customers and the public.
4. Managing challenging situations in a friendly, positive and professional manner, always striving to achieve a timely resolution.
5. Maintaining accurate records and updating information across various IT systems on a daily basis.
6. Representing Welsh Water throughout the lifecycle of projects, supporting partners through project development, planning, approvals and statutory processes.
7. Effectively organising and prioritising your workload, working with minimal supervision and managing competing priorities within your area of responsibility.
8. Building effective working relationships with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders to support the delivery of operational objectives.
9. Supporting the continuous improvement of network performance through inspections, investigations and recommendations.
10. Undertaking any other duties required to meet the needs of the business.

About you

Essential Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills

Experience

• Experience of providing good customer service
• Experience of working in a team to solve problems

Qualifications

• Current full, valid driving licence
• GCSE Grade C in English and Maths, or equivalent qualification or experience in a relevant engineering, utilities, environmental, water operations or technical discipline

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of the water industry
• Able to communicate well, actively listen and respond appropriately to solve problems
• Knows how to seek the opinions and experiences of others to understand different approaches to problem solving
• Able to build and maintain positive relationships with internal departments, company partners and contractors
• Able to work to tight deadlines, sometimes in difficult circumstances
• Able to use Microsoft software packages along with the company’s internal packages, for example using operational, mapping and data management systems such as GIS and other industry-specific software packages (e.g. PMAC, LIBRA and LMARS)

Good to know

Hours, Location & Standby

• Hours of Work: Monday to Thursday, 8:00am to 4:00pm and Friday, 8:00am to 3:30pm.
• Standby: Participation in a standby rota will be required as part of this role following completion of training (1 in 5 weeks).
• Location: This is a predominantly site-based role with minimal office-based working.
• Vehicle: A company vehicle will be provided for business use.
